Staff & moderation

TL;DR

Fair play is enforced structurally (automation can't score) and by staff. Punishments are public and appealable on Discord. Staff powers are deliberately balanced — they can't grant themselves currency or score.

A competitive server lives or dies on fairness. HarvestSeason protects it two ways: by design, and by a balanced staff team.

Fairness by design

The biggest anti-cheat measure isn’t detection — it’s structure. Score is only ever awarded for manual harvesting, routed through a single internal scoring path. Specifically:

  • A player breaking a mature crop directly (BlockBreakEvent)
  • A player right-clicking a mature crop with the Harvester Tool (right-click harvest)
  • A player’s AoE swing harvesting neighboring crops (requires purchasing the radius upgrade)

All three require a real player action. Villager farming is actively blocked. Crop hoppers are blocked. Water streams and other automation never reach the scoring path at all — not because they’re detected and cancelled, but because they structurally can’t trigger it. An automated farm produces items, not score.

This means the most common way farming servers get gamed — AFK farms, automated crop collection, villager exploitation — simply doesn’t work here by construction.

Balanced staff powers

Staff exist to handle the rest — exploits, toxicity, rule-breaking — but their powers are deliberately balanced and logged:

  • Outside the Founder, staff can never grant balance, score, or Mythic Crops to themselves — only audited reimbursements to other players, as verified compensation.
  • Every economy grant is logged in the staff audit trail.
  • Every blocked self-grant attempt is also logged — trying to give yourself currency fails and creates a record.
  • Vanish is rank-gated: a Mod cannot see a vanished Admin; an Admin cannot see a vanished Founder. Higher-weight staff can always see lower, not the other way around.
  • Staff tools (punishments, spectate, inspect mode) follow a strict hierarchy enforced by the plugin itself.

This keeps the team accountable and the in-game economy clean. The audit log is always running.

Privacy

Alt-account tracking uses salted-hashed IP fingerprints — raw IP addresses are never stored anywhere. The server groups accounts by hash only. This means the anti-alt system works without the server holding identifiable network data.

Punishments & appeals

Punishments (warnings, mutes, bans) are issued at staff discretion and follow published rules.

  • Punishments page — the full policy, severity tiers, and how to look up a player’s record.
  • /appeal (in Discord) — the formal channel to contest a ban or mute. All appeals go through the Discord bot’s case system and are reviewed by staff at or above the rank of whoever issued the original punishment.

Transparency is the point: punishment records are readable, the policy is public, and every action has an appeal path.

Reporting a player

If you witness rule-breaking — farming exploits, harassment, suspicious leaderboard movement — report it through the Discord. Open a support ticket or use the appropriate channel. Staff have an inspect mode and audit tools to review suspicious activity without relying solely on player reports.

What this means for players

You can’t accidentally “cheat.” The scoring path requires deliberate player action. Standing at your farm while someone else plays for you, or setting up any automated system, won’t earn you a single point.

The economy is isolated from outside influence. There is no /pay command between players, no player trading. The only way balance enters the game is through the controlled /sell path. Staff reimbursements are the only exception, and those are logged.

Punishments don’t disappear. Staff can see a player’s full history — past bans, mutes, and notes — before deciding on a punishment. Repeated offenses escalate. That said, every punishment is appealable, and good-faith appeals are reviewed fairly.

No real-money advantage, ever. HarvestSeason has no pay-to-win shop, no real-money purchases, and no real-world prizes. The prestige rewards at season end are in-game cosmetics only. The leaderboard is pure performance.

Common mistakes

  • Thinking automation will save time — it won’t earn score, and villager farming is actively blocked as a belt-and-suspenders measure on top of the structural guarantee.
  • Assuming staff can’t see relogged or alt accounts — the alt-tracking system flags account clusters automatically.
  • Not appealing a punishment you disagree with — appeals are real and reviewed. Use /appeal in Discord rather than venting in chat.

That’s the tour

FAQ

How does the server stop cheating on the leaderboard?

Mostly by design — score is only ever awarded for manual harvesting, so automated farms simply can't score. Staff handle the rest (exploits, toxicity) with punishments.

Can staff give themselves or friends free score or currency?

No. Outside the Founder, staff can never grant balance, score, or mythics to themselves — only audited reimbursements to other players. Every grant and every blocked self-grant is logged.

How do I report a player or appeal a punishment?

Use the Discord — open a ticket to report, or appeal a ban/mute through /appeal. See the Punishments page on this site.

Are player IPs stored?

IPs are salted-hashed before storage — raw IPs are never saved anywhere. Alt tracking uses hashed fingerprints only.
