The server rules, explained

TL;DR

HarvestSeason's rules boil down to be respectful, don't cheat, don't advertise, don't scam, don't exploit, and don't evade bans — this article explains the why and the where-the-line-is for each, and how enforcement and appeals work.

Every healthy community runs on a shared set of expectations. HarvestSeason’s rules exist to keep the server fair, friendly, and fun for everyone — not to catch people out. This article walks through each rule, explains the reasoning behind it, and shows where the line actually falls with concrete examples. The official, authoritative version always lives at /rules (and via /rules in game); this is the friendly companion to it.

1. Be respectful

The rule: Treat other players with basic respect. No harassment, hate speech, NSFW content, or spam.

Why it exists: A competitive server already has built-in tension — people are racing for the leaderboard. The respect rule keeps that competition healthy instead of toxic. Nobody enjoys a chat full of insults, slurs, or someone flooding the same message ten times.

Where the line is:

  • Friendly trash talk between people who are clearly enjoying it: fine. Targeted insults, slurs, or telling someone to harm themselves: never acceptable.
  • Disagreeing with someone: fine. Following them around to harass them: not fine.
  • A joke: fine. NSFW images, links, or persistent crude content in a shared space: not fine.
  • One excited message: fine. Pasting the same thing repeatedly, or wall-of-text spam: that’s spam.

Keep the main chat usable for everyone — follow the chat rules posted at /rules.

2. No cheating or exploiting

The rule: No hacked clients, x-ray, auto-clickers, macros, or any unfair-advantage mods. No abusing bugs.

Why it exists: This is the big one for a competitive farming server. The entire game is built on the principle that score comes from your own hands. You hand-harvest a mature crop, and that earns score. Anything that fakes or automates that effort breaks the core of the game and steals fair rankings from honest players.

Where the line is — what’s banned:

  • Hacked clients of any kind (fly, reach, kill aura, etc.).
  • X-ray mods or texture packs that reveal hidden blocks.
  • Auto-clickers and macros — software that clicks or harvests for you.
  • Auto-harvest setups. Critically: any automated harvesting (water streams, redstone, villager farms, hoppers pulling crops) earns no score by design, and deliberately building automation to farm score is bannable. Score is awarded only when you personally break a mature crop.
  • Bug exploiting — if you find a glitch that duplicates items or breaks the economy, report it; don’t abuse it.

What’s explicitly ALLOWED (so you can relax):

  • Performance and visual mods: Sodium, OptiFine, Lunar, Fabulously Optimized, shaders, and simple minimaps. These make your game smoother or prettier without giving a competitive edge, and they’re welcome.

If a mod gives you an unfair advantage over other players, it’s banned. If it just makes your game run better or look nicer, it’s fine. When unsure, ask in Discord before using it.

3. No advertising

The rule: Don’t advertise other servers, services, or content for self-promotion.

Why it exists: People joining to spam their own server or sell something turns the community into an ad board and disrespects the space others built. It’s about keeping HarvestSeason’s chat for HarvestSeason’s community.

Where the line is: Sharing a clip of your HarvestSeason run, or mentioning a tool that helped you, in good faith: usually fine. Joining to dump “JOIN MY SERVER IP” or selling unrelated services: advertising, and against the rules.

4. No scamming

The rule: Don’t deceive other players to take what’s theirs.

Why it exists: Trust is the glue of a community. Scamming poisons it. Note that HarvestSeason is deliberately built to limit this — there’s no player-to-player trading or /pay, so the classic “give me your stuff first” trade scam can’t even happen here. But social scams (lying to get an account, fake “staff” demanding info, fake giveaways) still can, and they’re prohibited.

Where the line is: Honest competition and bluffing within the game’s mechanics: fine. Lying to steal access, impersonating staff, or running fake giveaways to deceive people: scamming.

5. No exploiting / alts & ban evasion

The rule: Don’t abuse the systems, and don’t use alternate accounts to dodge punishments or unfairly multiply rewards.

Why it exists: Two related issues. Exploiting game mechanics (dupe glitches, economy bugs) undermines the fairness the whole season depends on. Ban evasion — making a new account to get around a punishment — disrespects the moderation that keeps everyone safe, and it’s treated seriously.

Where the line is:

  • Found a glitch? Report it via the website or Discord. Abusing it is the violation.
  • Using alts to claim rewards multiple times, or to evade a ban or mute: prohibited. The server tracks accounts to enforce this fairly.

How enforcement works

Punishments — warnings, mutes, and bans — are issued fairly by staff according to the situation, not handed out at random. The full punishment history is transparent on the /punishments page.

Crucially, every punishment can be appealed. If you believe one was a mistake or applied unfairly, you can submit an appeal through the website and staff will review your case. See Appealing a punishment for the process. The goal is fairness, not gotchas.

The spirit of the rules

If you remember one thing: play your own game honestly and treat people well. Hand-harvest your crops, keep chat friendly, don’t try to game the systems, and you’ll never run into trouble. The rules aren’t there to trip you up — they’re there so that everyone’s hard-earned harvest counts for something. For the official wording, always check /rules.

FAQ

Where can I read the official rules?

The full, authoritative rules live at /rules on the website and via /rules in game. This article explains them in depth but the official page is the source of truth.

Is using a performance mod like Sodium against the rules?

No. Performance and visual mods (Sodium, OptiFine, Lunar, shaders, simple minimaps) are allowed. Only hacked clients, x-ray, autoclickers/macros, and unfair-advantage mods are banned.

What counts as cheating in a farming server?

Anything that earns score without you personally hand-harvesting — auto-clickers, macros, and auto-harvest setups all earn no score and are bannable. Score is only for crops you break yourself.

If I'm punished and think it's wrong, what can I do?

Punishments are issued fairly and every one is appealable. Submit an appeal on the website's /punishments page and staff will review it.
